This was lovely; I read it twice before I commented just to appreciate it, so thank you. You provide great backstory, which is always fantastic to read, but more importantly I think you really captured the voice of Grave's Lestrade, even without much dialogue. There's a lot of facets to that character, and we don't see many of them on the show, but you pegged some quiet subtleties here--the way he doesn't correct his teacher, but snaps out that "don't commit suicide" line, and then finds his deepest identity in his son--that make it feel like parts of the character that I recognize. You make him a whole person here (and not an entirely happy one), which is just how it should be. Well done. :)
