A pet peeve of mine is when people count down like so:

Three, two, one ... one and a half, one and three-quarters ...

They do this because they want to drag out the "zero" moment.
Well, they're doing it wrong.

One and a half is more than one.
One and three-quarters is more than one and a half.

The person is no longer counting down, but up.

Similarly with:

Two, one ... a half, three-quarters ...

Is it really so hard to count correctly? It really irks me every time I hear it.

Three, two, one, (if you must then three-quarters, a half, a quarter in that order), zero.

Harrumph. Yes, I am that nitpicky.
It's like being someone who corrects grammar, but with less sympathisers.
