It's funny you mention the split ending - I considered for a very long time to do that, but I felt that yes, it detracted from the impact of the story. I remember the first time I heard about Schrödinger’s Cat and I spent an hour just trying to figure it out. I wanted to capture that sense of "is it / isn't it?"
