Final Rating: 7 out of 10.
Quick Summary: Disney's take on the classic fairytale, Rapunzel. Somehow features a chameleon and a saucepan.
This has been out for ages in the US, but only a few days here in Australia. So I only just got a chance to see it.
I really enjoyed this. Partly because I'm a child at heart and partly because I feel this was such a good remake of such an old story. Both of the main characters are so utterly dorky it's simply adorable.
The use of "animal sidekicks" was really cute. There's a chameleon and a horse. The chameleon is strangely badass, and the horse is like a ninja sniffer dog, I kid you not.
The plot is simple but the humor's well played; the animation is a bit above average but the design in some scenes really beautiful; and the musical numbers are alright. Actually, the plot is simple, yes, but I think it's a well embellished version of the original. They give it more magic and a little more romance and over all sweetness. If this was a fic, it would be humor / romance / hurt/comfort.
Did I mention the design was beautiful? Yes. A lot of people were fixated on Flynn Rider (male protagonist), but I loved the background scenes, especially the tower (inside and outside) and the town with the king and queen. And don't get me started on how gorgeous and cheesy the moment with the thousands of lanterns is.
As with every Disney movie, the happy ending is stressed, bolded and underlined. Repeatedly. And they set it up in glowing neons lights, as if to say, "THIS HAS A HAPPY ENDING WHERE THE GOOD GUYS WIN AND GET THE GIRL."
Totally worth a look, if you're into that dorky, childish stuff. Which I am, so it all works out good for me. :)

AHAHAHA WIN MOMENT FOR THE WIN.

Date: 2011-01-11 04:24 pm (UTC)I will always associate this movie with my friend B-. She is insanely into Disney movies (normally dragging me along for the ride :D). Anyway, she's the only person who really tolerates me groaning, "THAT IS NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE" or "HUGE LOGIC FAIL" in movies. ;))
One of my guy friends, really tough and crap, CRIES in movies. It's the most hilarious thing ever.
