tellytubby101: (Fantasy vs. Reality)

Final Rating: 7 out of 10.

Quick Summary: Disney's take on the classic fairytale, Rapunzel. Somehow features a chameleon and a saucepan.

This has been out for ages in the US, but only a few days here in Australia. So I only just got a chance to see it.

I really enjoyed this. Partly because I'm a child at heart and partly because I feel this was such a good remake of such an old story. Both of the main characters are so utterly dorky it's simply adorable.

The use of "animal sidekicks" was really cute. There's a chameleon and a horse. The chameleon is strangely badass, and the horse is like a ninja sniffer dog, I kid you not.

The plot is simple but the humor's well played; the animation is a bit above average but the design in some scenes really beautiful; and the musical numbers are alright. Actually, the plot is simple, yes, but I think it's a well embellished version of the original. They give it more magic and a little more romance and over all sweetness. If this was a fic, it would be humor / romance / hurt/comfort.

Did I mention the design was beautiful? Yes. A lot of people were fixated on Flynn Rider (male protagonist), but I loved the background scenes, especially the tower (inside and outside) and the town with the king and queen. And don't get me started on how gorgeous and cheesy the moment with the thousands of lanterns is.

As with every Disney movie, the happy ending is stressed, bolded and underlined. Repeatedly. And they set it up in glowing neons lights, as if to say, "THIS HAS A HAPPY ENDING WHERE THE GOOD GUYS WIN AND GET THE GIRL."

Totally worth a look, if you're into that dorky, childish stuff. Which I am, so it all works out good for me. :)

Now, let me leave you with:

How can you say, "No" to The Smoulder?!

AHAHAHA WIN MOMENT FOR THE WIN.

This movie I will always associate with my friend Reed (a guy who has a motorcycle and wears a leather jacket, has a ton of tattoos and his hair buzzed off, but is really just a huge nerd when you get to know him) saying that we all had to go see this movie before winter break. I remember just looking at him going "You serious?"

I think I can wait until DVD. But I do love Zach Levi.

Yeah, it's not something you HAVE TO see, especially since I wasn't exactly fond of graphics. Designs, yes; graphics, ehhhh. DVD + HDTV = fine.

I will always associate this movie with my friend B-. She is insanely into Disney movies (normally dragging me along for the ride :D). Anyway, she's the only person who really tolerates me groaning, "THAT IS NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE" or "HUGE LOGIC FAIL" in movies. ;))

One of my guy friends, really tough and crap, CRIES in movies. It's the most hilarious thing ever.

I wasn't going to download this to watch, but I guess I should. The not-so-Prince-Charming is such a nork. With Princess Ass Kicker, how can there not be ninja sidekicks? Though... Chameleon? In Fairytale Land? Really?

The chameleon is named Pascal. Reason I remember that? The maths thing: Pascal's Triangle. I AM SUCH A NERD.

Bahahahaa I think I remember seeing him in the previews, but still... Chameleon in Fairytale Land? Really? What is this? Jamaica?

Pascal makes me think of Richard Scarey's animal world. I think Pascal is the fruit seller. XD
