I used to do book reviews, didn't I? I haven't done any in ages. I've read tons though.
- The Millenium Trilogy (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) by Stieg Larsson < main guy feels like a Gary Stu at points, NGL; but YAY strong female lead y/y? -_- IDK, it was good reading overall
- Matched by Ally Condie < strong idea, slightly watery delivery, but still enjoyable
- The Chaos Walking Trilogy (The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer, Monsters of Men) by Patrick Ness < I like it, but I get the feeling a lot of it was layout (formatting?); since reading House of Leaves, no layout is good enough for me anymore XD
- City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare < ehh :/
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald < beautiful writing, ehhhh plot, NGL
- Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott < this is one of the most gorgeous, underrated stories I've ever read; nearly made me cry
- and there's another dozen books I've gone through re-reads, including Sherlock Holmes books, Holly Black books, Hunger Games, etc.
In the process of reading:
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien < why so wordy? WHY?
- The Once and Future King by T.H. White < so keen on this YAY no, I'm not biased b/c of Merlin fandom
- 1984 by George Orwell < so far I'm liking it, but a friend keeps saying it gets worse?
* Animal Farm by George Orwell
* Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
^ only read the a few pages of the last two, so no comment
I can't stand reading one book at a time. I need multiple books all at once. On the bus, in my room, one in my handbag, one at uni, etc. It's also good to match my mood. My friends and family ask, "Does it get confusing?" and to be honest, it never does. I guess this is why I'm good with juggling multiple fanfiction WIPs - even if the author hasn't updated in a while, I normally remember the plot and whatnot.
To read once I have a chance to go to the library:
- Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman < damn it, Sherlock fandom, all the x-overs w/ this have made me curious!
- Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
- The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
- Across the Universe by Beth Revis
- The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
- Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss < b/c that will apparently help w/ my crappy punctuation skills, but I don't really want to read it XD
- and all those sequels/continuations that will come out eventually (INHERITANCE CYCLE FINALLY)
Anyway, I realised my current reading list is NOT LONG ENOUGH. Anyone have some new books to rec? Stipulations: no romances (well, some is okay, but not the entire plot), no vampires, no werewolves. :D
Thinking about it, this is probably why I'm behind on my assignments. BUT OH WELL, READING TRUMPS EVERYTHING.

Date: 2011-05-03 04:56 pm (UTC)I can recommend you Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma and Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver if you want books that will stay with you for a while after reading. Both have some romance but mostly discuss other things.
BTW, are you on Goodreads? I always find great books there :)

Modern Chaos Cycle by K. A. Quinn as free ebook pdf. This is a 3 book trilogy or for something new and short:
The Damaged by K. A. Quinn 17,000 words
A revolutionary new medical procedure results in aggressive, sometimes erroneous preventative treatment of mental illness. Among the side effects are sensory hyperstimulation and even telepathic abilities as the brain heals itself. Daniel Pullman, one of the patients Damaged by these treatments, is frankly a little put out about being psychic, especially given that it keeps getting people around him killed. The military calls him once again to aid in locating the leader of the Damaged rebels, who are out for revenge about the way that society has treated them.

2 books...maybe more
Date: 2011-05-05 01:11 pm (UTC)One is called "King of Shadows"by Susan Cooper(If you hadn't read it yet). It's about a boy actor named Nat who travels to Shakespeare time.
Or, you could try the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. The books can be read in any order. They're full of irony and sarcasm.
Maybe even "Holes"by Louis Sachar. It's about the secret of a camp for delinquents. Or even Mitch Albom's books(More philosophy/moral/diary kind) or Sarah Prineas'Magic Thief series.
Oops, I think I said too much. Anyway, I love your stories!

And you are such a sweetheart~! :) There's no such thing as "too much" when it comes to reading. :P
