WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO LJ COMMENTS

SO UGLY and UNHELPFUL; I MISS SUBJECT LINES ALREADY

WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THIS REDESIGN WAS BETTER? SERIOUSLY, THEY SHOULD BE FIRED

OH MY GOD, DNW

It's bad enough that the Post Entry shit got changed a few months back so there's no "Clean From Word" feature, but this is just stupid. BLARGHY WTF ARGHY

My latest fic needs to be read in ?format=light mode, took me aaages (read: hours) to make it work, and the 'effing redesign has skewed the formatting just enough to bother me. asdfgjkl;lkjhgfdsasdfghjk, lkjhgfdsdfgjkjgfdsdghkjgfds RAEGGGG

JFC, now so very tempted to jump ship permanently to DW and move my crap to Ao3 (and FFn again).

Relevant to your outrage: http://moerlin.livejournal.com/22285.html

They are assholes. Dreamwidth is looking a better option by the day.

Oh my God. Reading that article has made me angrier.

I'd known vaguely that the changes were happening, but I thought it was for the default style only (kinkmemes, anonmemes, etc. being affected). But I was reading a fic on a paid account and I went to the next chapter and BAM! Face full of ugly.

SO, SO UGLYYY. Even the "leave comment" is ugly.

"18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them", omfg. Does LJ not care that a huge portion of their paying account users are here for the fandom and RP'ing, which, incidentally, really likes subject lines?

Fuck LJ. Thank God I didn't cave and get a paid account, jesus.

(Also, your disapproving!Merlin icon is relevant to my feelings rn.)

I KNEW I should have posted to you/on my journal about this last week when I heard about it. It came out on a Russian server so few knew about it. LJ staff doesn't give a wink what we think of them, but I think we already knew this.

Most people are moving to InsaneJournal though since it's like old LJ. DW is too strange for most.
You should look into it. I hate that freaky face guy that comes with it though.

No, I actually heard the rumours a few days ago, but the level of change implemented shocked me. I mean, I figured they'd just removed the subject lines, something easy to fix, but they overhauled everything. The stupid icon loady thing, the lack of comment previews... EUGH.

Still, the whole Russian secret release is some real BULLSHIT. Fucking hell.

And I'm importing my stuff to DW because InsaneJournal weirds me out. Also, I'm lazy and I conviniently already have a DW account that I'd just never used. :3

Yeah, they actually had a whole load of things coming but he only leaked it slowly as people bitched at him. But... I knew everything and anyone who was able to access the Russian beta server freaked out and was mad and they basically spilled all the dirty little updates.

I've never used my DW either, lol. Poor baby... Just sitting there all moldy lonely...

Can't they make the layout an option? Like security settings?
Tick the layout you wish to have:
a) Default
b) UGLY

Can you read Russian? :-O Or do you use the Almighty Google Translate? (Or Babelfish, either one.)

No options! Sorry, in Russia options screw you!

Some Americans could get on the beta-server, but there were a few Russians that spilled the beans earlier and were complaining/panicking about it. There was quite a bit of noise from the 1%...

I posted something up on a couple of comms when I first heard about this during the week asking people to protest. It was rolled on out fucken RUSSIAN Livejournal and announced here by the person who decided he wanted to do it because he thinks seeing (no subject) in the subject line is ugly.

Also, all previous subject lines have been moved within the body of the text itself and all further use of subject lines are disabled FOREVER unless you get special permission... And they're also rolling back S1 entirely so everyone will be stuck with S2.

Let's kick someone in the teeth.

From: [identity profile] tellytubby101.livejournal.com
What. Appearance is not more important than functionality. WTF.

Most kink/anon-memes are changing to S2 layouts to get the subject lines back, but it's not the same. Still, it's better than the fugly-ass default setting, which just ruins everything.

The problem with S2 is that it eats your comments sometimes and
mak
es
t
h
e
m

ot

among other things. Same with customised comments which is his other offered fix.

Also, you have to expand/collapse all threads individually (or auto-all at the bottom) and it loads FOREVER because it's java animation so #1 you're stuffed if it doesn't work #2 you're stuffed if your computer is slow #3 it's slow no matter what.

I swear I read this somewhere, but aren't the LJ evil overlords designing a layout that looks like the old one to use, to be released soon~ Dumbasses should've made sure it worked before instigating this godawful change. Fingers crossed some users who have layout comms are working on tweaking the code. :/

From: [identity profile] unjaundiced.livejournal.com
Yeah supposedly there's S3, but who knows wtf is going on because I swear they've said that before and they actually don't want to go to S3. They like S2 better and think it looks nicer.

Right now he basically said "some communities may keep their old layout" but it's probably a few select PAID communities. Also he said less than 1% of the LJ userbase uses the subject title so he figured issuing a non-negotiable proclamation of change would be fine.

Fine like an unwanted parking ticket maybe!

From: [identity profile] unjaundiced.livejournal.com
Also S2 loads perilously slowly and eats the hell out of bandwidth so most people (and mobile app users) either won't be able to use LJ at all or will have severely limited useage.

S3... Yeah, not hopeful for that considering what they're doing right now.

Some companies just appear really out of touch with their userbase. Delicious ignored all the complaints from fandom-users, so there was a mass exodus to Pinboard. However, LJ has been so deep-rooted in fandom, it's almost like FFn at this point. Everyone will turn up to the party, but even when it goes sour, no one really can find it within themselves to leave.

As far as I can tell, paid communities/users are affected, too. Ugh.

RE: Other comment

If even their Russian userbase has shown signs of discontent with this BS and they haven't budged, I don't think they will. asdfghjkl;;;

See what you did there? You made your own subject title within the body of the comment text... Just like [livejournal.com profile] igrick prefers! *slow clap*

Russians do their own thing so whatever, but if a lot of their paid users leave they'll probably have to rethink what they're doing. Technically though, with 18 pages of comments... That's not a lot of the LJ community. I want to see where it goes by the end of the week or month when more people have seen it.

They've been screwing us over with basically all their updates anyhow. I stopped editing/updating a ton of stuff because I was getting so pissed off with the text editor and the way the cuts kept eating all the content. It would take me 3 hours to add 5 lines of text.

It was that bad.

I hate the fact that they've instigated this one change due to the aesthetic tastes of one user against the protests of many more. If I knew how to sufficiently hack, I would hack her account.

For me, I can posts short posts easily enough, but fics are a pain in the butt. For the current Avengers fic I'm posting, I use the "Clean to Word" thing on DW, copypasta the HTML to LJ and then manually edit the places where DW coding doesn't match with LJ. THEN, because LJ is fucked, I have to preview a million times and catch the thousand tiny discrepancies WHICH HAVE NOW REAPPEARED WITH THIS HORRIFIC UPDATE. DDD:<

Oh yes, I second the fact that editing posts is more difficult now. Editing posts with LJ cuts are a pain in the ass now. I bet learning Ao3 coding would be a good investment at this point in time, blarghy.

I believe [livejournal.com profile] igrick is a guy, but yeah... Use this and release your rage.

Coding is a huge bitch because copy-pasting into LJ doesn't work with OpenOffice anymore. Now I have to copy into GoogleDocs and copy from there into LJ.

I just don't like typing in code because it's a huge pain! It would be easier for posting integrity yes, but a bigass pain! D<

The other thing to do is pirate Dreamweaver and make it do the work for you. :/

P.S. The responses from the Russian community are GREAT. I'm glad to see them so angry. Though I'm not happy that the beta only ran for Russians and that you had to get special permission to get in there. >.>

Okay well like one person said they liked it because it made their page navigation easier (wtfffff?!?!) but other people may not be so happy with it.

Also apparently they're rolling back banners to try to get rid of ads... Huh? I mean, yeah that's nice but can they afford to do that?!

From: [identity profile] tellytubby101.livejournal.com
Ohh, whoops. I really should stop making gender assumptions. "Igrick" read in my mind for some unknown reason as "Ingrid" and therefore I assumed they were female. Their custom user icon only showed in my email.

I can type basic code. Like, super duper basic, enough to get by, but nothing close to what I need for fics.

I kind of like that they're cutting down on ads, but I'd rather keep them than lose a lot of the nice features in place.

It's kind of weird, seeing Russians annoyed at the change. Normally it feels like they like them whilst the Western/English-speaking side don't. Huh. UNITED AGAINST THE EVIL OF LJ!!!

Lol Igrick has a post about his name saying people called him Igor so I'm guessing it's a guy... (but it also says Ilya which is a woman's name so who knows) and the little icon is a Musketeer with a beard so I'm really leaning towards guy, lol.

For fics, most of the code is going to be for italics, line/paragraph breaks, and possibly bolding/header tags. I just hate typing them out and it messes it up visually to see it. That and loading to FFn gets all messed up if you have html in it..

Yeah a lot of Russians seem happy but there are a bunch of pissed off ones so I'm hoping more pissed off people will speak up because I am seriously annoyed.

Subject titles and comment loading... Such a little thing! BUT SO AGGRAVATING!
