So, fandom has been flailing due to this shitty LJ redesign - which makes as much sense as Starfire's new look in the reboot, IMHO - but apparently, there is more.
THIS links to afew MILLION possible changes LJ is thinking of implementing. It looks like everything is getting uglier and posting will be a greater pain in the ass than it already is. If this ends up happening, DW seems like a good place to jump ship.

Date: 2011-12-22 08:31 am (UTC)DreamWidth is like LJ two years ago, slightly bit clunkier as they try to get rid of any minor lingering bugs. Some HTML is different, but the majority of it is the same, from what I know. They did that on purpose, to make LJ to DW easier, I think.
I find it easier to post there, because it still has the "Clean from Word" option. It's rather similiar to LJ, though the userbase is much smaller because most people aren't inclined to move. Fandom-wise, I see a greater shift once DW perfect the comm-user importing system (since importing is only right now available to journal users). The DW mods who are working on the coding seem to listen to suggestions more than the LJ ones.
If you've been here since '05 and have 800+ entries, I say that you could back them all up on a DW account (they call it "importing" - it will bring over your comments, flist (on OpenID), user icons, etc. too). You could do a crossposting thing with DW/LJ I've seen more and more of my flist do. Of course, the decision to even make an DW account is entirely up to you.
I suggest make an account and play around with it, see if you'd like it. If you don't, then there's no loss. If you do like it, then there's a ready back-up should LJ ever got to Hell.
Hope this helps! :)
